2009 Cultural events - advance programme - CLICK
An original and exciting experience for lovers of kayaking on the open sea.
June 21st will see the third annual Fishing Contest in Kayaks, held in the Village of Salobreña. This is a unique event in Spain, first held in 2007. In 2008 the competition attracted more than fifty participants.
This original type of local fishing has the enthused participants from all parts of Europe. The competition takes place in an area of artificial reefs where an abundance of fish is guaranteed. The types of fishing permitted are line fishing under the cliffs and trolling with live bait in the area of the reef.
Over 20 species of fish are accepted in the competition, including jacks, snapper, Sarge, Herrera, grouper, sea bream, mojarra, forkbeard, bass, mackerel etc..
Because of environmental concerns each participant will be limited to a catch of 10 pieces per species.
Prizes include trophies, wilderness tsunami kayaks, wilderness kayak fishing gear and gifts to all those registered.
The registration fee is 20 euros.
Previous competitions have attracted more than fifty boats. The uniqueness of the activity and the natural beauty of the surroundings in which it is held, promise a very interesting and day for those who love fishing and sailing canoes.

The event will be declared open this year by Marian Sanz de Acedo and will begin at 1pm on Saturday June 20th with a "BEST TAPAS" competition.
During the weekend there will be entertainment of all kinds including jugglers, street theatre, flamenco, music and live broadcasts by Radio Salobreña.
